Fantastic experience at the AbbeyGlen Castle, Brian welcomed us like family! We loved our dinner and breakfast, the music in the bar and storytelling. The property was stunning and everyone we met was so friendly. We went for a tour of the abbey as well and loved the majestic beauty!
Great stay in a historic location. Our room was comfortable. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The owner has a nightly welcome event in the on-site pub where he details the history of the castle. He is a convivial host and he take pictures of the guests which he presents as keepsakes at dinner. Very enjoyable. The owner is a friendly guy; however, it felt like his friendliness was more performative with us than others, which took some of the fun out of it for me. I guess we were too old and not pretty enough to be fascinating like the younger group of Canadians he seemed to fixate on.
Very mixed about this hotel. It’s a beautiful castle on the outside and the grounds are nice. It’s a short walk to the water. Our room was really nice- beautiful large room, very castle like, lovely green garden view, large bathroom with shower and bath and nice products- it’s a great room! There are also some nice areas to relax and the evening we were there, there was some nice entertainment at the bar. Downside is it’s a bit too dated in its approach and somehow feels like it’s set up to attract big tour groups - maybe we were the wrong crowd. The breakfast is very basic for the price of the hotel, with a strange buffet style in some round tables and then some options on the Menu. A few of the staff we encountered were friendly but felt like exchange students from France. The bar didn’t have 0 % beers despite this being v popular- it’s some how just hasn’t evolved with time. It’s 💯 not value for money and having spent a few nights in a few other hotels of similar price, it lacks the extra touches for the price - from amenities to high quality staff and service and food. It seems focused on tour groups and that works for them but I wouldn’t go again.
