AC Hotel Recoletos by Marriott

Simply terrible. I paid €460 per night and I would never come back — here’s why: Unfriendly front desk — zero warmth, not what you expect at this price point. Worst hotel breakfast I’ve ever had — basic continental spread, no effort. If you order eggs, expect to wait 15 minutes for an omelette. Completely unacceptable. Noise nightmare — lucky me, first floor room. I got to enjoy constant door slamming from people using the emergency stairs, and was woken up at an insane hour by a garbage truck making massive noise while picking up multiple loads of trash. I travel for work — this wrecked my sleep. The “gym” is laughable — a tiny hole in the wall with random Decathlon equipment. You cannot call this a gym if you’re an AC Marriott. It’s a joke. Room? Basic at best. They provided two tiny 200ml bottles of water — seriously, for €460 a night? Verdict: Never again. This hotel is a total miss on every level.

I enjoyed this American style hotel, with the bigger size roomd, bottled water and Nespresso machine for coffee. The best part was the location, Salamanca neighborhood is very nice with a lot of options for restaurants food markets, shopping and sites. The staff was helpful in their directions, recommendations and helping me get my train tickets to Galicia. The hotel stored my additional bag since I did not need to bring it on the Camino de Santiago so on my way back I stayed another night and picked up my bag before going to the Costa Brava region. I would stay at this hotel again and again when I’m in Madrid.

Great location, small footprint yet modern, wonderful staff, jazz club downstairs is convenient and special (vale Juan!). Room was lousy! As a Platinum member with many stays in Spain and have always received wonderful rooms and often upgrades. This time no upgrade and instead a room on the second floor of a 5 story hotel overlooking street construction ! Nice welcome note from Cecilia the manager, but suspect by using points for the two nights, I was relegated to a poor room which they had already planned to put me in, thus the welcome note. Can only imagine where guests with silver and gold status on points are placed.:( Not certain we would stay here again.
