AHG Sun Bay Mlilile Beach Hotel

We just spent six wonderful and relaxing days at the Sun Bay. This is a quiet little gem hidden away on the northeast coast of Zanzibar. Facilities wise I would rate it 3.5 stars however the staff is over the top wonderful a 5+. I can’t say enough about how helpful and attentive they were. The rooms were well kept and I appreciated the electric kettle in the room. The food was wonderful the only problem is I ate too much. The Italian flare to the menu is wonderful and the breads always fresh and delicious. The water pressure in the room is not as strong as I would like but it is nice and hot. Anytime we had an issue the staff dealt with it immediately. We had massages/scubs/manicures and pedicures almost daily and the massage therapist there was wonderful. The restaurant staff always wanted to make sure you were happy. Breakfast is a buffet with eggs made to order and lunch and dinner were always four courses. Thursday night is a fixed menu so you may want to make sure it’s too your liking. We order lobster that night and it was wonderful. The beach is right out from the restaurant and it is beautiful. Once you step out past the lounges you can expect the local craft merchants to approach you to try and get you to buy there goods. They will not bother you on your lounge or come on the property. Makuti Tours has a desk on site staffed by Setty. Can’t say enough about him. He explains everything and is so accommodating. Even when someone in our party got hurt (not their fault) they made sure he got good care and gladly canceled and refunded our tour the next day without question. We went snorkeling and to prison island and had a great time. On the snorkeling trip some of our party were non-swimmers and afraid of the water. The captain got in the water and helped them overcome their fears. It was great. Overall it was an incredible and relaxing trip.

Very nice and private lodge for relax vacation. Please note that it's quite far for many things, such as market, mini-market etc, so you have to rely on food and beverage there. Prices are OK (tourist price).

I arrived to the Hotel as a walk-in guest. Just for a drink, and some snacks. The beer was as usual, and I received the Menu card to choose the food. But the waiter arrived 30 mins later to take my order. I thought! But instead of it he told me the kitchen is closed! I felt upset , because he did not mention in advance. And also there were not too many people in the restaurant to wait 30 mins. I left hungry. Plus at the receiption I had to pay 6$ for a general, nothing special beer. Sooo expensive place and impolite staff, I really do not know why so overhiped?! Not recommending at all….
