So first of all, the reviews are misleading and make me believe the reviewers didn't actually stay in the hotel. The rooms were beautiful (with traditional Japanese aesthetics with a modern touch) and comfortable, not to mention clean. The front desk and cleaning staff were all friendly. Lobby is amazing beautiful with a huge painting of Nijo Castle, a diorama of the same, and waterfall outside the restaurant. Parking was also great, and so was the location - right across from Nijo Castle! We were happy IHG members with this one!!!

Overall, very nice rooms. Some rooms provide a traditional japanese setting. Breakfast buffet was also very nice with a large window overlooking a very well done manmade waterfall that doesn't appear to be manmade. It looks very real. Other amenities such as the pool and sauna area are also nice. Location is a few minutes walk from the subway line and several bus routes which makes it convenient for local travel.

The staff is polite, courteous, helpful, and quite conscientious. The hotel is undergoing phased renovations. We checked in as a family of 3. So we required a larger room. The air conditioning in the first room didn't work well. The layout was ok. Similar to Western hotel designs but, smaller. The second room was about the same. We needed a fan on top of running the air conditioning. I call it a "legacy hotel". It was the place to stay 30 or so years ago. Along with having a concierge style atmosphere. In saying that, you might find a more modern updated hotel within the same price point.
