Casa de Sal Salt Hotel

Great location in the center of town. Rooms have wall heaters and electric heater so you are warm at night. Hot water for showers and a great breakfast!

Great hotel, we stayed for one night as we were doing salt flats tour. Top tier breakfast, and we could leave our bags there during our tour as well. Friendly staff accommodated our later check in. Spacious rooms and spacious hotel in general. Really nice restaurant at night too.

Booking does rate it a 4-star which is absolutely not true. The hotel rates itself as a 3-star which is closer to the truth. The hotel is built out of salt bricks which makes it kind of unique - as are some other hotels in the area of Uyuni. The room was.... well located, spacious and different and likable as such. But there were a few things that drag it down. It was cold, it was noicy, the hot water was merely luke warm at best and needed to run 3-5 mins before you could shower and the wifi was constantly disconnecting. The hotel overall was cold and we had to have breakfast in our woolen sweaters. The breakfast... barely mediocre and no service at all. The hotel asks for cash payment in dollars where they kind of bluff their guests. Our rate was $91,80 (while we paid $100 for a true 5-star hotel in La Paz) and upon our arrival early morning we paid $100 cash (got no invoice) and got $8 back. We wanted to buy breakfast that costs 100 bs (Bolivianos). The official rate for $1 is about 7 bs but at the same time they offer to exchange dollars into bs at $1 = 10 bs while the dollar trades on the black market for 15 bs. When we paid for breakfast we paid with the $8 we got back wanted to trade it for 10 bs as offered (equalling 80 bs) and add 20 extra bs. = 100 bs. But, NO they used the official rate ($8x7bs=56 bs) plus the 20 bs we handed them (76 bs) and charged us additional 24 bs. So, all in all we can say we in fact paid 124 bs for the breakfast. Furthermore, if calculated for the dollar logic we pay in fact more than double for the room in terms of bs. So, unfortunately, thumbs down for Hotel Casa del Sal.
