City Hotel Colombo 02

Good hotel for the money. Reception staff are less than useless, showed us our room, never said a word, didn't explain anything. Manager more than maid up for the others lack of professionalism. Didn't eat or drink there. There is also building work going on out the front that starts about 8am.

I stayed at this hotel for three nights. At first it seemed decent enough but it quickly fell apart. First thing is the AC, which unsurprisingly doesn't work as well as it should (the lowest it can go is 24 even when I enter 20). The second thing I quickly noticed is that the internet is essentially non-existent. While they say they have free Wi-Fi and it is technically true, they never provided me the password. So when I went to see them to get it, it was complicated and I soon understood why. They don't simply give you a password, they give you your own signal booster to plug into your room and it has the password written on it. But even with this contraption, I can sometimes have 10 minutes of Internet in the whole 24 hours (and I stayed mostly inside for 2 days). From time to time I would try to reconnect to the internet and when I did it says that there is an outstanding balance to be paid or something like that. I've also tried to unplug it and plug it back, which seems to work for 5 minutes (sometimes) and then I'm back without internet. The rest is a bit Petty but it tells you a lot about how the place is run: — One of the three lamps just doesn't have a light bulb in it (so it is totally useless and only for decoration I guess even tho I kind of needed it at one point as it sits on the desk). — The desk table has two metal stands and I found out that both of them are not even screwed into the desk when one of them fell by accident at one point. — The window in the bathroom which has litlle vents above the window to let the air pass through when using the shower. But it has no screen whatsoever to keep the mosquitoes out, I can put my whole hand through. — Again in the bathroom, the toilet seat they put on is just too small. It was made for a different toilet shape and is a good 5cm too short. Which means you are not sitting correctly on it and your butt touches the toilet. — In two whole days spent in my room they never came to ask to clean anything.

Caution – Money Stolen from My Room I am extremely disappointed with my stay at City Hotel Colombo 02. While the facilities and location were decent, my experience was completely overshadowed by the fact that money was stolen from my room during my stay. I kept my cash in my luggage, hidden among my belongings. When I returned to my room one evening, a significant amount was missing. I reported this to hotel management, but their response was unsatisfactory. They claimed to investigate, but I was left feeling dismissed and without any resolution or accountability. Security measures at this hotel are clearly lacking, and I question the integrity of some staff members. No one deserves to have their belongings violated while trusting a hotel to provide a secure environment. fellow travelers, take this warning seriously!
