Just arrived back from 9 days here and loved it. We stayed in the preferred club part away from the main resort in a pool terrace room onto the lazy river. The room was great and being able to walk out straight onto a terrace with a pool was amazing. The preferred club area was about a 10 minute walk from the main resort over a wooden bridge through a lake and mangrove forest. The service overall was good and generally as long as you are not over demanding and prepared to wait your turn its no problem at all. We found as the time went on the staff recognised us and they were friendly and keen to help. The food selection overall was good however sometimes the a la cart restaurants felt a bit limited in terms of choice. The buffet was great and one of the best we have had. Pools are great with plenty of loungers as long as you arrive at a reasonable time if you want a spot front and centre. We moved about between pools during the days and always found somewhere to setup. Overall had a great time and would love to come back again.
We just spent 6 days at the preferred club room. We had great experience. We tried almost all restaurants and after couple days already had our favorites. Steaks are great. Pizza is really good (as Europeans living in the USA it's more of a European style pizza so if you like the greasy one from USA you will not like it). Picaña and chicken jerk at the On a Roll Preferred Burger Bar. Fish tacos at Seaside grill were really good too. World Cafe buffet for breakfast and omelets were awesome. Same for Oceana's Osso Buco. As for the service - tip before you get served. We noticed that changes everything. These are very hard working people (we've seen the same people everyday working from early morning to late night) with low salaries unfortunately. That's the reality of DR. We did a lot of research and understood were it's coming from. Our concierge Mayker was on top of everything. Sending us all necessary information each day in the morning and making sure all our requests (restocking shampoo etc) were met. Housekeeping was there everyday and they really took their time. The beach was full of algae - but that is not the hotel's fault. Pools are nice and clean and there's plenty of space to swim. They wash all the beds on the beach everynight. Big shot outs to Yira - a hostess at the reataurants for noticing our son's needs and ordering his food right away after we just got seated. Our drinks orders were often mixed up and we ended up getting more than we asked for but that's because of language limitations. Also thanks to Nelson for always being on top of our drinks making sure we have something to drink. Everyone were super friendly to our 6 years old kiddo. They don't smile to you and great you as enthusiastically like they do in the US but again - it's different culture. And great thanks to the lady at the Dolce Cafe who's name I unfortunately don't remember. The only reason I put 4 stars instead of 5 is the moldy smell of the rooms. Not sure where it was coming from, but that's the only thing that would really need improvement somehow.
Had an absolutely fantastic family vacation here. Everyone enjoyed the resort very much, but a few things gave it 3 stars. First and most important was the food. I would give that a 4 maybe 5 out of 10. Everything was bland, and tasted the same. Felt like anything made with any meats was gamey and tough. A weird rule here was every pool was only open from 10 am to 7pm. When you have kids on vacation they all want to swim as long as they can. The rooms were great, very spacious, well appointed, but the bathrooms lacked any kind of exhaust vents and after a shower the humidity was terrible in the bathroom. They supplied incense to cover any odors….lol. And the resort rooms are along very long open to the outdoors hallways that echoed every noise anyone made (and there were a lot of drunk people yelling in the hallways late at night) and was very loud when they had their evening performances until late at night. I will say I loved this vacation and enjoyed my stay there.
