I overall had a pleasant experience. It’s a basic hotel, but it delivers on the essentials — clean rooms, friendly staff, and a good central location for exploring the city. One thing I really appreciated was that they let me check in early, which was a nice surprise and very convenient after a long journey. The room was simple but comfortable, with everything I needed for a short stay. While there aren’t a lot of extra frills, it’s a solid choice if you’re looking for a reliable, no-fuss place to stay in Sofia. I’d recommend it for travelers who prioritize location and value. The hotel is located just a few minutes’ walk from the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, one of Sofia’s most iconic landmarks.
The hotel has a great location when you want to explore Sofia. Everything is within walking distance. The hotel/rooms are a little bit outdated and here and there somewhat dirty. During the morning the cleaning crew occupies the only elevator for a very long time. We were on the highest floor, meaning a lot of stairs. The breakfast is fine and the lady running the breakfast is vert friendly. It’s ok-ish value for a hotel in a big city, but some things can be handled better.
The only positive things about this hotel are the location and (the only) friendly faces you encounter here, the 3 Spanish trainees. I still feel sorry that these poor kids have to do their internship in such a godawful place, with so many serious problems, and such unfriendly "supervisor(s)." BE WARNED: this is NOT a 4 star hotel by any stretch of imagination. It is NOT a business hotel as WiFi is pretty much useless, it is not suitable for any other purpose either, be it families, and it sure lacks any romantic genes. Housekeeping is non-existent, and one feels so unwelcome both at reception and in your room. It is the first hotel I stayed in anywhere in the world (and I include Third World) that doesn't give you towels at all after taking your dirty ones (because they, literally, had none left; doesn't service your rooms at all for days in the row, even when, in desperation, you put "please make up my room" sign on the door at 08:00. They don't give you any tea bags, when you go downstairs and ask constantly exasperated night supervisor who clearly doesn't want to see you or be there, offers no apology for your room being unserviced, won't crack a smile to save his life, and gives you exactly 2 tea bags even when you are staying for a week. It is the first 4 star, gosh any star, hotel, where upon arriving at 9pm I spent the first 45min cleaning, just not to be disgusted and be able to go sleep. Corridors were dirty, unvacuumed, white stuff, rubbish a over the floors, the lift filthy with something spilled over the lift doors, not wiped down in ages (see photos). First I got checked into room 502, stale air, dingy and stuffy with smokers smell. I look for aircon - aircon filters not cleaned at least in a decade, flashing "filter cleaning", and tractor sounds aside, blowing weird air when switched on, and switching off every few seconds to flash the "filter needs cleaning" message. Disgusting long black hairs were everywhere, on the bedlinen, inside the duvets, in the bathroom, on the floors... I booked double bed, but in 502 was given two singles/twin, separated and not even aligning. I thought saving grace maybe bed 2 doesn't have hairs, no (!) It was worse!!! It was on the inside of the duvet! I go to reception to tell whats happening, Mr Never Smiles gives no apology, and in response to my question if they have "a clean room without so much hair", tells me i have to take a single room [though I booked superior double for that whole business week. I stay and talk to lovely Spanish trainee, and in the meantime, Mr "I Don't Want To Be Here" miraculously finds me room 303. Well... no hairs on the bed here, but pillowcases/bedding weren't even changed!! Sleeping creases, even the staining, rubbish from previous guests all on display, not wanting to face rudeness again, I go back to room 502, bring the changed pillows from there, drop off unchanged ones, search housekeeping cupboard for sheets and change it all. Room 303 i was given was a balcony room, so I at least could get relief from stuffiness in the room by opening the window (to ugly carpark & delapidated buildings, and yelling drunkard, but air is air). It was a very cold night, however, i go to aircon when switched on it doesn't work and flashes "invalid mode", sounds like a tractor. God help people in it in the summer heat! The balcony was filthy from fingerprints and whatever was spilt on it, both the glass doors and balcony itself seemed not washed in years. I cleaned the door just not to be disgusted to use it. But the worst thing about room 303 that Mr I Don't Smile gave me, was uncleaned toilet, men's hairs and pubic hairs were all all over the shower and bathroom. Cleaner's toilet brush left in the toilet bowl, just sticking out, men's (raised seat and all) dried piss and not so dried, all over the toilet edge (see photos). The only day housekeeping actually came they just balled my sheets i was covering myself with due to heat, into a ball. They do not clean - dust in clusters, mould in shower, dirt. Don't believe hotel posted photos!
