Room was clean, spacious, and modern. Bed was comfortable. It's located in a nice neighborhood. It's one block from a big avenue. They were repairing the street in front the hotel, so there was a lot of noise all day ( jack hammer and cars' horn). They came several times a day to check the room ( cleaning, check the refrigerator/bar, checking if the room was clean or not) which I found very strange. Towels were well used and bad quality, some with stains. Everytime I left them in the floor to be replaced I was left with no towels for hours and I needed to ask the front desk for them. They never replenished soap, shampoo or conditioner.
We arrived at the GHL hotel for a short vacation in Barranquilla with the surprised that the 5 stars hotel we reserved was not what we expected for its price. A lot more to expect in its facilities and service, the rooms were fine but again not what you can expect for the prize (did not have hairdryer or nightstand lamps). The staff in the cafeteria was very polite but the front desk not so much, when first arrive they did not received us well: we arrived earlier but knowing that room will be ready until 3pm we suceden to left our backpacks in the hotel so we can go enjoy the city. The people from the desk not offer a warm welcome or to sit and drink some water that they already have served in lobby. A shame because we expected more from a high category hotel. The pool was in the rooftop but it has no save guard or a person that will be taking care of what you need. The last night in, we deciden to what the march in the bar that is on the first floor, we sit in a table but latter they ask us to move just because they had a “big reservation” and need to sit people there, it is understandable noticing that me and my husband did not bought anything at that point but we actually paid for our 3-night stay and it was not cheap as I said before. Positive: the breakfast is fine, the air conditioner works fine and the facilities are not old. Note: the shower has a weird door that covers only half way. Unfortunately, I don’t believe we return to this hotel the next time we visit Barranquilla.
This hotel is not at all what you think it is based on the pictures. Those photos were probably accurate several years ago but certainly not as of July 2024. The hotel looks like it was once an upscale hotel but has since been neglected and not maintained properly. It looks dingy and feels gross. There is an awful smell in the hallways and rooms, the furniture is stained and dirty, cracked tiles in the rooms, and the room looks look so bare and cheap. We booked this hotel more than a month in advance and asked for a crib. We confirmed a few days before the trip if the crib was available and were assured it was. Upon arrival they made us wait an hour to check in exactly at 3pm. They couldn’t confirm if they had the crib for us and kept pushing the matter to the side, saying they would ask someone and ignoring our concerns for the crib. Even after taking our bags upstairs to the room the hotel staff told us the crib should be on the way up and they they would call an associate to figure it out. We called front desk after 30 minutes or so and they proceed to tell us that the crib they have is broken and that they can’t offer us a crib because they only have 1 in the entire hotel. Their solution was to offer to bring us a small bed into the room. A foldable cot is not an acceptable or safe solution for our 8 month old to sleep on. We couldn’t stay here! We immediately called the Marriott Barranquilla and they confirmed they had cribs available and stayed there instead.
