Hugues is super welcoming. We stayed in July 2025 for 10 days with my wife and our 3 children. We stayed in an apartment with a balcony and a superb view. The apartment was very well-equipped and comfortable. A bonus for the kids was the swimming pool right across the street.
The wooden huts/chalets are nice and well located. Very clean and well equipped. Note, you can go to the beach on foot in 15 minutes via a hidden path... ask Hugues, the very nice owner (the same one who makes this great punch). Groups: ask Joël to make you a meal, nothing better in Basse-Terre!
We didn’t stay in the actual gites. The owner said he overbooked because of a glitch with exp**ia, so he put us in a room in the ground floor of a friend’s house. The owner is incredibly nice, and I do hope he’s telling us what actually happened, but as it was, we ended up leaving after 2 nights because it wasn’t where we wanted to stay. I think if we’d stayed at the actual gites, it would have been a good experience. As we experienced it, it was incredibly disappointing. He did let us have access to the gites property and it was much nicer than where we stayed. Nice breakfast buffet. The entire experience has made me doubt booking with exp**ia.
