Hakodate Onuma Tsuruga Resort EPUY 30km from Hakodate Station

In short, this hotel is amazing and highly recommended. Now supporting the statement: 1. The hotel is in the middle of the Onuma lake, at walking distance from the park. We spent the afternoon walking around the hiking path despite the cold and some snow. 2. The hotel has a deck into the smaller part of the lake that we took advantage at near midnight to stargazing and search for shooting stars. One of the staff members kindly guided us outside and showed us the best location to find the constellations that we were looking for. 3. The food at the restaurant is spectacular, French/Japanese fusion prepared with products from the area (they even tell you the locations of each dish). 4. My wife asked for a small plate to celebrate my birthday, and the hotel went the extra mile to give me a gift from the hotel. 5. There is a public onsen (volcanic water spring bath) and you have the chance to reserve one of the two private baths. My wife and I spent an hour there after stargazing to warm up.

The loveliest onsen manor / hotel accommodations! It looks like the manor of a really rich grand uncle from the 20s. We got the room with its own outdoor bath (because I have a tattoo) and it was everything I dreamed it would be. We went in winter so the warm water is so nice against the cold weather, the birds are just chirping and flying all around. Everything was clean and provided for. And the meal services were so well done, we felt so pampered. We also did bird watching in the area around the hotel and it was magical. Accessibility-wise is also great, there is a direct train ride from Sapporo Main Station to the Onumakoen station which is right across the hotel (you have to go around the tracks though so it takes about 5mins on foot.

First time to Hokkaido!! Saw Onuma Tsuruga Resort online and was impressed with it and decided to reserve a room with private onsen Reached there early, about an hour before the check in time and decided to try my luck to see whether the front desk allows me to check in early, one of the staff told me only can check in after 3pm, so decided to leave my luggage there and drive out around before returning. One of the more senior staff ran out after me and told me I can check in and proceeded with the administrative check-in process. He even used his smart phone translate app to verify with the guests on any dietary restrictions, the facilities available for use in the resort and mealtimes for guests, etc. Impressive with the staff being very meticulous and flexibility to allow guest to check in when their room is ready. Another staff member brought us to our room and also reminded us to be careful when accessing the outdoor onsen and not to accidentally locked ourselves outside!!! Would recommend for anyone looking to enjoy some quiet time in winter Hokkaido soaking in onsen enjoying the weather. Stay for at least two to three nights Would definitely come back again!!!
