Hotel Esplanade BW Signature Collection

If you like history, this is the place for you to stay. Great location for walking around downtown. Amazing breakfast with a wide food selection (the best scrambled eggs we ever had in hotel). I loved porcelain tableware, non stop access to coffee machine. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Beds a bit soft but comfortable. Bathroom very tiny but that is very common in Scandinavia. Thumbs up for eco approach, we didn't touch a piece of plastic during our 3 nights stay.

Great hotel! The rooms and bathrooms were nice with a good amount of space. The breakfast had a nice variety of options. The staff were very helpful with storing our bags when we arrived before check in.

We booked 2 non-smoking double standard rooms through Holiday Check as per description. Caution: However, in the end it turned out we were booked on two standard single rooms with single beds. Also, no parquet flooring as described by Holiday Check, but carpet instead. According to the receptionist, with whom we complained while presenting our booking confirmation, it is a translation error by the booking portal from Swedish to German. And therefore, the single rooms were sold as double rooms. Since the hotel was fully booked, we had no choice but to accept the small rooms facing the courtyard. We were kindly welcomed with sparkling wine as compensation. But what would have happened if we had arrived with four people, meaning two people in a single room on 1 pillow? We will never know. The receptionist wanted to contact Booking.com, and we pointed out to her that we booked through Holiday Check... Whether they actually contacted Holiday Check in order to prevent this issue in the future,  is beyond our knowledge, so it is advisable to book directly on the hotel's website to avoid such mistakes. Otherwise, we really liked the hotel. The old furniture and lounges were very cozy and fascinating. The breakfast buffet offered a lot, even for vegetarians. The staff was very friendly. The location is very central. Our small rooms faced the courtyard and were very dark, making it difficult to check ouot the weather for dressing properly, but they were quiet. The larger rooms have a great view, but they can also be loud at times as they are facing the road. We knew there were no elevators before arriving. The hotel is only on the ground floor and the first floor, so you only need to navigate one spiral staircase.
