I had an unexpected and somewhat distressing experience arriving at another hotel in the dead of night, only to find no reception, no response to calls, and no taxis in sight. As the rain poured down, I felt a sense of helplessness creeping in. However, amidst this dire situation, the angels of hospitality descended upon me in the form of the incredible staff at of Hof van Gelre hotel when I gave them a ring asking for help in this situation. Brest Van Kempen, Martyn Bosveld, and Meike Schneider, I cannot thank you enough for your exceptional kindness and unwavering assistance. Despite it being well past working hours, you went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure my safety and comfort. Your selflessness in coming to pick me up from that desolate location without accepting any form of payment truly touched my heart. Without your prompt and compassionate intervention, I shudder to think of the alternative - spending the night exposed to the elements in the middle of nowhere. Your act of kindness not only rescued me from a potentially dire situation but also restored my faith in humanity. The level of care and dedication displayed by the staff at Hof van Gelre hotel, particularly Brest, Martyn, and Meike, is truly commendable and deserves the highest praise. Your actions exemplify the true spirit of hospitality and serve as a shining example for others in the industry. Words cannot adequately express my gratitude for your timely assistance and genuine concern for my well-being. This is one of these delightful hotels in Holland, whereby you feel continuously pampered by the super friendly staff. Where you can eat really delicious food with a large choice and variety. It is not a cold, super modern hotel, but one that fits like a warm coat, with just the right combination of nostalgia, modern comfort and fits the surrounding perfectly. Wander around in the old city of Lochem and you sense why this hotel is perfectly suited for anyone who appreciates the finer details of living. For me this is the top-hotel in Holland, warm and cosy and one long enjoyment to stay.

The building looks a bit dated but we'll maintained. The larger parking space is conveniently located right across the road from the entrance. The only significant downside of that parking space is that it was transformed into a massive mud pool after a bit of precipitation.
