Hotel Seifuen

(I stayed in the newer building and in a tatami style room, so I can't comment about the other building nor the western style rooms.) First off, I keep wavering as to whether or not this is a 3.5 star or 4 star place. The minuses: Not thick enough futons, the rooms are a bit old. The pluses: The meals are amazing! The food is so good! Best of all, you get your own personal dining room with great service! This is very important if you have children as they have place to play while you eat. Likewise, my son's food was very tasty and all homemade (although it was expensive). The hot springs are very nice too! The dry sauna is fantastic and is around 88-90°C, which is just right for me. Other comments: The garden looks really nice and has a foot spa, but it was cold so I didn't try either. As this is a traditional Japanese hotel, it makes sense that the breakfast is mostly Japanese. For me, I wish they had just a bit more western options as I didn't really feel satisfied - like something was missing - even though it was very tasty.

Seifuen is one of the longest established hot springs inn in Kamiyamada hot springs resort. Various kind of hot springs and sauna are fantastic. Stayed in a twin room, quite clean and big room, two beds are available, not like classical Japanese style inn.

Located in an old onsen town, I felt that the rooms were a little bit dated. One thing that really bothered me was the mould in the sink. However, the lobby areas were really nice, the private garden was well appointed and the onsens were very good. Food quality was as expected, and i would say that the service was excellent. Not much to do around the town though.
