Hotel Solisko

We stopped here for a quick refreshing beer after a hard days hiking. The beer was very good at a reasonable price and the view over the Tatra Mountains was spectacular. The hotel has a large outdoor seating area with amazing panoramic views of Strbske Pleso. It can get quite busy during peak seasons, but I have never struggled to find a table and the service is pretty quick also. The staff were very friendly and spoke English as well as Slovak, which certainly helped.

Beware if you stay in this hotel, it looks like a four star hotel, but it is not. I stayed here with my family last weekend. Unfortunately I had a very bad experience. On Saturday evening, around eight o'clock, a stranger entered the hotel spa, and from the lockers in the changing room stole me a money. I reported the theft to the police. At the time of the robbery, there was only one person at the reception and no one in the spa, three waiters work in the restaurant, so not many people work there, for your safety. However, the hotel reacted by saying that it was my fault, that I shouldn't bring money to the spa, that they don't control the people coming in and out of the hotel or other similar places, and that they had a lot of work to do, when there were only 4 people working on the first floor at the most (We saw it on camera after the robbery). I have not even received a formal or informal apologize from them since, this will surely make them react, if not, judge for yourself. The spa lockers have very bad security, the lock is partly made of plastic, so be careful if you leave anything there because it is very easy to open. There is no one to control the spa access, they do not even have a mechanical access. They don’t have secured that the access is just for guests of hotel. No doors locked that can be open with card or chip just for the guests. I stayed at apartment number 2, the couch in the living room has several stains from something red and brown, I do not want to believe that it is blood. It was very unpleasant. Be careful with the people around, because they may not be guests of the hotel, as happened to me.

I would like to share the negative experience we had in Solisko restaurant. We waited for over half an hour for someone to take our order. Finally, when the order arrived, one meal was missing and we had to ask twice when the last meal is going to arrive. Nobody could answer us. We waited for 15 minutes for someone to come back to us. By this time, the other meals were cold and nobody even apologised for their mistake. The chicken we ordered was dried on one side, the other side was still pink. We had a good experience at this place few years back, this is the reason we went back. However, after this experience we will not be going there ever again. Very poor service, expensive but very poor quality food.
