We went for Christmas and New Years dinners. The presentation of the dining hall was beautiful. The table setup was quite fancy. The wait staff was fast, attentive, and friendly (thank you Manolo). We were served a vast menu of beautiful items; the starters might have been called risky or “interesting” but I love when chefs try different techniques; the remainder of the meals was more traditional: jumbo prawns, a meat dish, and a fish plate. All of it was great as was the atmosphere. Perhaps the best and most important parts for me were the kids’ room (a large side hall where children could play, read, or draw) and the entertainment team for kids. The facade and entry hall of the hotel itself are beautiful and the seating area at reception is very comfortable which paired well with the reception staff who, even at night on a holiday, are warm and welcoming.
Redirected here off the Camino Sanabres after the local albergue in A Laxa decided to close for the day (just because?!?!, or perhaps for band practice). We were soon joined by 8 other pilgrims who were similarly tired and redirected away from A Laxa after a long day on the Caminos Sanabres and Invierno. Regardless of showing up to this beautiful establishment tired, sweaty, smelly and exhausted the staff were amazing, kind and respectful. We were quickly checked in, the room is huge and clean and the food with bar service is amazing. Definitely recommend! One set of pilgrims taxied back from here after walking two towns beyond towards Santiago - they came back because it was highly rated and less expensive then the options along the Camino.
Not good, the hotel is very clean neat and tidy, the staff at the reception very welcoming, obviously well trained. The spa, small but adequate, the water was not at a good temperature, it was cold, so not a pleasant experience. The room (the first one) nice clean and tidy. Then went to have a bath, the water was cold, after a few attempts to see if it would get hot we informed the lady at reception who also tested it and got the same result. She then checked another room, it had the same problem, we went to dinner while the lady sorted out a new room for us. The dining experience, we found the dining to be very much like a workers canteen, the table layout were very basic, we had a bottle of wine, we had to ask for a wine glass, we were expected to use a water glass. The food was not hot , there was plenty to choose from and it seemed well cooked. The dining hall is in my opinion is a cold place because of its location, therefore the food gets cold very quickly. There is an aroma of old food, a stale smell. The dining room is not a four star experience, possibly one star, there needs to be someone of management level overseeing this area, it would appear that the waiters are left to get on on with doing a job to the best of their ability, they need support, from the management and training. On finishing dinner, we went to our new room after taking our belongings from the old room. The new room, was similar to the first one, neat tidy and finally got hot water, sleep was fine, overall experience of the hotel, was it's definitely not four star it needs to improve a lot, hopefully this feedback will help do that.
