Hotel Zdravilisce Thermana Lasko

Full recommendation, excellent place.

Laško is famous for its thermal springs. Although the Zdravilisče Hotel acts like a luxury 4* hotel, it is already noticeable that it is somewhat older, even after renovation. The room furnishings look a bit used (e.g. cables sticking out of the lamp switch, scratches, dingy tiles in the bathroom). I understand that there is an effort to direct visitors to the newly built neighboring 4*Superior Thermana hotel. Would you expect slippers and bathrobe in the room as usual in the spa hotels? Don't! You will have to pay €5 for renting one bathrobe. And they don't have slippers at all. Is it a joke? The swimming pools at Zdravilišče are clean and cater more to older guests who want to take a dip in the water or go for a swim. The outdoor area was closed during winter. For the younger ones, the new Thermana Park centre is a great retreat and is really impressive with all its attractions including outdoor pool. The only downside is that you can't access the Thermana Park directly through a corridor from the Zdravilišče hotel, you have to go outside. This is, especially in winter, a bit inconvenient. But it's worth the experience. Breakfast and dinner in the hotel Zdravlišče were quite satisfactory in taste. What was missing were the descriptions of the dishes. Their placement was rather haphazard, so you sometimes didn't know what you were actually getting. Also sad is the actual equipment of the dining room, which really feels more like a canteen than a restaurant of a 4* hotel. You won't find cloth tablecloths, only paper placemats. The layout of the tables doesn't exactly have a neat pattern and gives the impression that atmosphere is not a priority. The wait staff won't even notice you at the table unless you order drinks at the bar entrance, you'll be left thirsty (which I don't understand as they are depriving themselves of income). The table clearing is also not very good, with the attendant driving around with a trolley and collecting leftovers in containers, putting away cutlery etc right in the dining room. I really consider the food service to be the weakest link of the hotel. If you like walking, it is definitely nice to walk around the river and into the small town. The centre of interest though would definitely be the swimming. In my opinion the hotel does not meet the standards you would expect from a 4* hotel. I would rather rate it as a better 3* hotel. But the price is definitely not cheap in comparison with some other and better hotels even higher. And you have to pay extra even for a bathrobe!

Only the top, 5th floor rooms meet the 4 star hotel standards. Other rooms on all other floors are very old-fashioned (from the 80's) and shabby looking. The rooms get really hot because of the old lighting. The shower cabin had black mold. I went in February and there was a plethora of mosquitoes in my room. The food and the pool were fine. Nothing exceptional. For that price, definitely NOT worth it. You can get so much more and so much better somewhere else for that money.
