Our family of 3, 2 adults and a 10 year old, spent 3 nights at Isla Palenque. The island is beautiful. The beaches are amazing and the ocean water is bath-water warm. The food was fresh and delicious, with much of the fruits and vegetables grown on the island. Sunsets are spectacular and at night the sky is filled with stars so vivid you can see the Milky Way. Be prepared to totally disconnect, unwind and be catered to. Kayak first thing in the morning, hike to a completely uninhabited beach or hunt for marine life in the tide pools at low tide. We only spent 3 nights there and wish we had stayed longer. I hope we can make it back some day.
Isla Palenque is our idea of a perfect beach holiday. It is a very special place to decompress and enjoy island life. Life slows down; the only sounds you hear are the ocean and the wildlife. The rooms are rustic and private - we especially loved the outdoor bathroom. The king bed was very comfortable; and the room was kitted out with everything we needed including binoculars and a rustic wooden vessel to rinse the sand off our feet. The staff were fabulous!! We enjoyed the opportunity to explore the island and the nearby national park with knowledgeable guides - learning about the history of the island (its indigenous inhabitants and archeology) and its wildlife. The food was really good, fresh and local, which we appreciated. The casitas front onto a long and beautiful beach to walk and enjoy the sunsets and sea life, often with no one else on it. We became quite fond of the hermit crabs! We plan to come back…
Too many kids. We didn’t know spring break would attract so many families with kids. Because of this unfortunately the pool was usually busy & noisy so we didn’t spend much time there. (the reason for 4 stars). However we still had a wonderful time. Service, the room and food were outstanding. Hikes around the island were fun and interesting. Our return trip will be in January, February or May and NOT during spring break!
