Kula Maya Boutique Hotel and Spa

Kula Maya is hands down one of the best places to stay on Lake Atitlán. The rooms are beautifully designed—modern, clean, and thoughtfully integrated into the natural surroundings. Waking up to panoramic views of the lake and volcanoes is an unforgettable experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, always going out of their way to make you feel welcome. The on-site restaurant is fantastic (don’t miss the breakfast), and the vibe throughout the property is peaceful and restorative. Whether you're here to relax, explore, or work remotely, Kula Maya strikes the perfect balance. Highly recommend!

I had an amazing stay at Kula Maya. As opposed to other hotels around the lake that are only accessible by boat, you can drive into town and get near the hotel. You then must walk down a fairly long pebbled alley to get the hotel. Hotel staff can help with bringing luggage down the pathway. The people at the front desk are friendly and welcoming. The views at this hotel are incredible and arguably the best on the lake! I stayed in the Fluidez dome which I believe is the best as its closer to the water and people cannot see inside your room from the pool or as they walk to their own room. It also seems like the biggest dome as it has a couch, desk and sitting area. The bed was big and comfortable. I could live in the outdoor shower but you do have to be aware of critters that can be out there. There is a pathway in front of the hotel by the lake in which anyone can walk past so be aware of that if you're focused on super privacy. The food at the restaurant at the hotel was tasty and the dock for transportation is nearby. There are a lot of wild dogs around the property. With the dock nearby, you can hear the noise, talking and music, of locals sometimes throughout night but nothing that was too long or bothersome. Relaxing on the deck of the room was the best part of our stay. Stay here for luxury, great views and relaxing vibes.

I was extremely disappointed with my stay at Kula Maya. We booked this resort expecting a top-tier experience where we could relax by the pool, enjoy cocktails, and dine on-site while taking in the beautiful view. Instead, the restaurant and bar were completely closed, leaving us unable to get drinks or food at the resort at all. On top of that, boxes and supplies were scattered all over the property, making it feel disorganized and far from the luxury experience they advertise. While the staff were kind and our room itself was nice, the reality is that we did not get the full resort experience we paid for. If the property cannot provide basic amenities like food and drinks, they should not be charging full price or marketing themselves as a luxury resort. Management refused to do anything to make this right, so I feel obligated to warn future travelers: **do not expect the experience they advertise.** The biggest disappointment wasn’t the stay itself—it was management refusing to take responsibility.
