We stayed at La Tica y La Gata in June. From the moment you walk through the front gate, there is a beautiful peaceful atmosphere. The rooms are spotless. There's anything you could need in the kitchen are. The pool area is Beautiful! Stella, the owner is so friendly & willing to help with anything. She had created a beautiful haven where is easy to relax. We highly recommend La Tica y La Gata.
This boutique hotel is like a little oasis. The shared pool feels very private, completely walled off from the world with very tall bamboo and hedges that are speckled in flowers that attract hummingbirds. The kitchen and living room are outdoors. You should know that it is a 10 minute walk from the hotel to the main road and about 12 minutes from first beach access. If you have a car, a friendly heads up that every local driver drove super slow on the rocky road -- so don't speed down that lane as it must be tough on vehicles. You can take Tuk Tuks or Ubers if you don't want to walk or drive. We didn't bring a car and found the walk easy enough as people who hike regularly for exercise. Being off the main road has the advantage of a very quiet stay. The hotel staff helped us organize a private shuttle to Puerto Viejo from San Jose and also our next leg from the hotel to La Fortuna, plus offered very helpful, detailed inside info about local and regional local knowledge.
This was a wonderful place to Relax. Very nice kitchen set up and very clean. The pool area was so comfortable with a nice sitting area in the shade. Really love the sounds of the birds and the howling monkeys. The only problem is it close to town but it’s a pretty rugged road a little over a mile long to get into town, so you really need a car. The owner and staff were so helpful and friendly! She did say that the town has promised to fix the road??!!
