Le Cameleon Puerto Viejo

This is a really great boutique hotel with 3 pools, beach front and Jacousi. The room quality is very different, so pick what suits you. We had a basic room which had problems (AC leak, torn mosquito net) and got upgraded for no cost to an amazing room near the main pool. The staff is friendly and smiley all the time! It was a really great enjoyable time. Totally recommended!

Starting off with the positive sides: the hotel has a super friendly and helpful staff in the reception as well in the gigi bar. Moreover the food in the restaurant was delicious and was compared to the prices in Puerto Viejo even cheaper. The placement of the hotel, the pool area and its general surroundings are truly unique. On our stay we were able to see different kinds of animals for instance sloths, lizards, snakes or spiders, which we have never experienced before. Thus, I think it’s a good hotel for people looking for this wildness experience. Now to the negative sides: the rooms weren’t that clean. Because we were living at the lowest floor we constantly had worms, cockroaches and little spiders in our room, which we had to obviously kill. Although we had cleaning service everyday we could still find some corpses of the dead insects in our room. Moreover I think that the shower head could be working a bit better. Furthermore due to the heavy rain one day, our ceiling started to leak a bit. And finally, the large hotel pool was only in use on 2 out of 6 days of our stay, which was a bit disappointing as we had been looking forward to it. All in all I would say that this hotel definitely offers some unique experience in the wildness but I do think it needs a few improvements.

Beautiful nature and friendly front desk staff, but the overall experience didn’t match the high price. One of the three public pools was out of service for 5 out of 7 days. In our premium room, we saw 2–3 cockroaches daily. While the climate may explain their presence, housekeeping left dead insects lying around for days despite daily cleaning. Only after increasing the tip were the ones in the middle of the room removed — others were still ignored. Breakfasts were very repetitive, and the coffee machine was broken all week, leaving only weak filter coffee available. On the last day, heavy rain caused the ceiling in our premium room to leak. Great location, but the service and maintenance were disappointing for the price.
