We were hesitant because of some reviews but we are very happy with the hotel, considering the circumstances after what happened on the island last year. Since arrival all the staff have been friendly and helpful, so I don't understand why people say they are rude? Sometimes the French style demeanour can be stern in appearance but when you chat to them they are all welcoming. They are short staffed as are all the venues across the island. In the week they don't do the huge, varied breakfast spread that is normal for a 5* hotel, but that's because there's not as many people staying and they haven't got the staff. New Caledonia is expensive no doubt, due to importing everything but considering the cost of breakfast elswhere and what we get at the Meridian it's very good value. Yes there's work to be done here but it's a fabulous location and the staff do work hard and try to meet expectations and we would definitely stay again.
I stayed at Le Meridian in April as an unexpected detour, but couldn't recommend this property and its staff more highly. After arriving in New Caledonia a day before my birthday, it was important to me to enjoy that day a bit. The hotel I had planned to stay at was unable to accomodate me (Hilton), and rebooked me without my consent which was unprofessional. Enough about Hilton (that stay was terrible for the following two days). I was lucky enough to book a room at Le Meridian where the staff was helpful, professional, and friendly. The room and view was beautiful. Not only that, the staff acknowledged my birthday on arrival, and even had a nice small gift in the room when I arrived. For those planning to stay in New Caledonia, Le Meridian is lovely and modern property with a kind and attentive staff. Highly recommended.
This hotel needs work. Our room felt dated and looks nothing like the photos online. There were multiple broken drawers and even broken appliances in our room, and it was not cleaned properly. However the front desk staff did nothing to accommodate our requests for items to be fixed and actually seemed irritated by our concerns. We understand the current situation politically, but if you can't operate at a "5 star" level then your management should choose to stay closed. I would not recommend this hotel unless you are comfortable staying in what feels like a 3* hotel at a 5* price.
