We had a fantastic stay. My husband and I visited to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary and stayed at the sunset beach villa with a pool. It was beautiful, well maintained, clean, and very cozy and comfortable. The bed is a good size, the air conditioning worked very well and kept the room cool which was great specially after spending the day out in the sun. The room also felt very private, like we had our own little piece of paradise. The service was good, we were particularly happy with the SPA where we were treated to a massage which was probably one of the best if not the best massage I’ve ever gotten. I also really enjoyed sunset yoga! My husband and I also enjoyed the water activities although some days there were a bit crowded by other hotel tours, I appreciated that our tour guides were very organized and kept us safe. I also want to mention that the food was fantastic, too many options to choose from! So much variety. I could go on and on about how great everything was, I really hope to be back some day! My only small piece of feedback would be that I wish the gym was bigger, and for anniversaries or honeymoon celebrations it would be nice to decorate the bed or room like they do in some hotels as a gesture but it was something minor that we overlooked because everything else was so great and enjoyable! ..... Relaxing times at Barcelo Whale Lagoon Maldives Aug. 2025 Our goal was to spend two relaxing weeks at the beach and it was well achieved at this lovely Resort. The resort is pretty new (2 years) and therefore facilities and infrastructure are in good shape. The whole area, every pathway and the gardens are taken care of well. We were on a Sunrise Water Villa and enjoyed our spacious room. Beeing surrounded by the beautiful blue ocean is the feeling we were looking for. Housekeeping is on a high level and could maybe only improve im regard of consistency (i.e. turndown service only few times). You get a good range of food and beverages with All-inclusive, even if there are some exclusive items for All-inclusive plus or for upcharge. For us the best part at the restaurants were the friendly and joyful interactions with the staff members. Special thanks to Rejin, Hassan, Suresh and Manha for the nice chats and cheering us up everyday. We also enjoyed the service at the Wellness center. The balinese massage as a couple and Mandara treatment are well recommended (special thanks to Kirana and Mila). The snorkling trips organized by the Diving Center Team are very well recommended and should be on every guests bucket list. Think twice before you book this resort ! My birthday holiday is ruined by this resort 😅 Pros: 1) Spacious room with sunset view , with separated shower , bathtub and toilet 2) Amazing diving instructor Jai Lam 3) Well-facilitated, two fantastic pool bar with fascinating views 4) Smart design water-proof key band , no need to bring key card with you 5) Good housekeeping , offering twice per day. Room is neat and tidy. Cons : 1) Unmotivational staffs, you seldom find the smiles on their faces. Help yourself is the tips for you. The drink order from the restaurant is usually wrong .You need to follow-up most of the things by yourself , especially arrangement on special day, checkout time etc. They completely forgot it 😅and delayed to do it 2) Poor management , wondering any training and management to the staffs ? They are very weak in service and food knowledge. They are not really eager to provide services. 3) Awful food, it was shocking me about the food condition. The cheese served with the moist on the surface. The juice shot is warm. How disgusting it is ! The drink quality is not consistent, sometimes it’s good from the bar , it’s always bland in Sea salt restaurant. No standard for the drinks. The soup is watery. And the sushi is cut by the big butcher knife instead of proper sushi knife. The staffs obviously don’t have enough knowledge about the food in terms of cooking skills and food hygiene .Seriously, the management should take some action on the food quality control. This is not 5-star hotel quality. 4) Chaotic arrangement, the seaplane arrangement is super bad. They didn’t reply us in email about our arrival flight till our previous hotel told us. The seaplane schedule is changed without any notice. We sat in the lounge and waited like a dumb. They informed us to check out at 1:30pm and the seaplane departed at 2:30pm. Later , we learnt our flight is delayed till 3:40pm but still no information till 3:44pm. I haven’t had this experience in Maldives resort 😅 5) High mark-up on US dollar payment! Check your bill before you pay by card. No joke ! The payment machine is gonna charge 8.5% mark up on US dollar payment. We were shocked by this and then the staff took another payment machine charge by Maldivian currency. It’s the normal exchange rate instead of US dollar and your local currency. 6)Only westerner got golf car service from the reception to the seaplane . We were asked to walk by ourselves but then we saw the westerners got the golf car ride at our back, why ?😆 7) No relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. No one cared about your feeling. And stay experience.The staff approached and smiled to you for SALES purpose only ! To conclude, the hardware is good but the software is poor.
