This is nice hotel, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and cheerful but are grossly overworked due to numbers. Dinner was OK but breakfast an absolute disaster. Due to the lack of staff breakfast was was a hit and miss affair. The replenishment of the buffet took ages and you couldn't have want you wanted to eat. The young girls worked very hard to keep things going but they couldn't handle our party. The management were noticed by their absence. Our party was 50 strong but they were not prepared for us.
Family wedding here We went for family wedding on one of the hottest days of the year. Unusual for August Bank Holiday weekend... Wedding beautiful... Asked family to wait in the bar areas. Which was still open to the public and served food from the menus.... Drinks prices where extortionate.....we did expect high prices as you normally do get that at weddings etc but these were above an acceptable level. To the point that guests with children went to the local shop to buy pop and crisps!!!! Non alcoholic drinks were more expensive than usual... We should have started meal at 4pm... Which enabled photos etc to be taken in the garden.... We were at least 1 hr late but eventually we started the meal... Which was pig roast with salads and a roll. The food was served onto side plates... Which made it look as if everyone was greedy with food piled up. As they served meat 1st then roll then salad... Speeches made party started....... Really lovely day..... On the night time... More guests arrived.... For the evening bash and again food was served..... A small queue formed..... And food was served when the queue died down some more people went up to the counter... Including the brides father and mother who waited to be served... There was at least 4 tables out of about 10 that did not get anything to eat as they had run out... Completely..... Obviously this had an effect on what was a lovely day for the family..... It Looked like the hotel was trying to cash in on the day... Charging 5 * prices for 2* service.. This spoilt a really lovely day..... It was the family that made it lovely not the hotel... I have posted this before but someone had it taken off..... As I hadn't edited it 2 months ago as stated on site..... I've give 2 * as we did have a good time...both families made it a beautiful day to remember
Attended a dinner/music evening, warm welcome on arrival and directed to where we should go. We were a little early so went to the bar. We were more than a little taken aback at the price of the drinks, I thought the barman had made a mistake but he told us it was correct. over £8 for a beer and half pint of Pepsi ! The room was nicely laid out round tables seating 10, we met the other people and chatted while we waited for the food. Set meal of soup, main and pudding. The soup was watery, main meal vegetables cold, over cooked and again watery, pudding was also cold but we were advised this is how the chef intended it (peach tart with custard). one of the people asked for her pudding to be warmed up. No one thought to ask if we had enjoyed the food at any point. More evidence of expensive drinks as people of the table paid £24 for bottles of wine and another couple had a beer and g&t for £12! The show itself was great, lots of interaction and dj in the interval and afterwards, pity we had to sit through the poor meal to enjoy the main part of the night. The hotel were given opportunity to comment on our complaint, but as they had a lot of positive feedback they would take our comments “on board”
