In Bangladesh, getting true value for money is often a challenge—but I can confidently say that Mermaid lives up to that challenge. What struck me most was how thoughtfully designed the entire place is. Every detail seems to have been carefully considered. I visited with my wife, kids, and elderly parents who have mobility restrictions. One of the biggest conveniences was the availability of autorickshaws to take guests from the meeting point to their rooms or anywhere else within the resort, just upon request. This small but significant service made a big difference—especially for my mother, who was able to move around more easily because of it. From what I observed, the guest-to-staff ratio is probably the highest in Bangladesh. Staff members are available round the clock, and they take their work seriously, making sure everything runs smoothly. The aesthetics of the resort also deserve praise. The design blends beautifully with the natural surroundings, creating a calm and quiet atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxation. The pool is another highlight—well maintained and offering a stunning view over the sea, it adds a whole new layer to the experience. The food is on the expensive side, but it’s genuinely delicious. The buffet breakfast stood out—it offered both variety and great taste. Yes, the resort is pricey. But unlike many other high-cost places, here you actually get what you pay for—and more.
I recently stayed at Mermaid Beach Resort in the green morning beach villa and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. 1. Overpriced Rooms with Poor Maintenance The room rates were incredibly high, yet the condition of the rooms was disappointing. The washroom layout was extremely inconvenient—there was no sink near the toilet, meaning you had to step outside into the room to wash your hands. Additionally, the mirrors had visible mold, and overall room maintenance was very poor. To make things worse, the floors were covered in sand, which clearly indicated a lack of proper cleaning. 2. Mediocre, Overpriced Food The food at the resort’s restaurant was highly overpriced and lacked quality. At best, I would rate it 3/10. For the amount charged, the taste and portion sizes were simply not worth it. 3. Friendly Staff, But Not Worth the Price The only positive aspect of the stay was the staff, who were friendly and accommodating. However, for the price being charged, the overall experience felt like a complete rip-off. You are essentially paying premium rates for a subpar stay with little to no value in return. I would not recommend this resort unless significant improvements are made in cleanliness, maintenance, and overall service quality.
Beautiful resort let down by Awful service. We had a few rooms which were mostly fine. One of the mattresses was rock hard. The grounds are incredible. However the whole trip was let down by the awful service and restrictive ‘rules’. One of our rooms had no clean running water on the last day, it was blocked up dripping with black dirty water. We complained and were not able to use the water until 11AM, which is also conveniently the checkout time. We had the workers knocking at our door trying to rush us out despite knowing we had no running water and were given no alternative option. The food at the hotel is mediocre with many options “not available”. The service is slow with many items taking 40-60+ minutes to arrive. Once we were told a tea would take 20 minutes to make! The main pool is the highlight facility of the resort, it was great. However, while the hard product is amazing, the soft product wasn’t great. The pool is strictly only open from 12pm-8pm, this means using the pool on the last day is also impossible. As we were a large group, they were denying some of us entry to the pool because only 4 people were allowed per room - the worker at the entrance didn’t make much sense - and not all of us were going to swim anyways. Again we had to complain. The water in the pool isn’t cooled, so it was quite warm but I didn’t mind. The cherry on top was that at the end of the trip we were made to pay for the pool use as it was not included, something which was not clearly communicated to us the whole stay! Overall we found the whole experience was quite ‘restrictive’, we were being told no to many things you’d expect from a resort hotel. The service was slow and subpar. Our experience was spoiled.
