We had an excellent 4 night stay here. The location is great -- just a 5-7 minute walk from Sapporo Station (but be aware that it's right next to the almost identical Mitsui Garden Hotel Sapporo -- essentially like an extension, but with a completely separate check-in desk). The hotel itself feels very new, with modern furnishings. Our room was pretty spacious, in comparison to the typical Japanese hotel room. Beds were quite comfortable, and the bathroom was sparklingly clean and not cramped at all. Wi-fi was fast and reliable. It was great to have washer/dryers available on certain floors -- like most of these machines in Japan, detergent is automatically dispensed. There's a nice lounge with a reliably good coffee machine, as well as a selection of free snacks (salty and sweet). The onsen public bath was clean and relaxing (separate onsens for men and women). Hotel staff were all really friendly and efficient. Overall, this is a great place to stay as a homebase in Sapporo!
Stayed in the Superior Twin Room with my husband and 10-year old son at the end of March 2025 for 2 nights before we start our ski trip in Niseko. Compared to hotels in Tokyo for example, I would say this room is spacious but we still couldn’t open up all 3 of our luggage at one time. Room is nicely decorated, however the table is way too small for anything at all, let alone having a light breakfast on the table. Bathroom is spacious but the bathtub is extremely slippery and there is no anti-slippery mat provided. I wonder how elderly could get out from the bathtub without hurting themselves! Location is convenient although it’s not right at the JR station but I would say within 10 min walk. Speaking of location, please take note that there are 2 Mitsui Garden Hotels right next to each other, and not only us, but I saw a few other guests who also went to the wrong hotel! The staff at the front desk only told us with limited English that we have been to the wrong hotel and that we must move our luggage to the correct one! Even though we had 4 luggage and a kid, they did not offer any help at all! Imagine it was -5C outside, even a 1 minute walk with 4 luggage is a pain! I wish they could be a little more helpful than just standing behind the front desk and asking us to leave. Will definitely never stay in this hotel again!
I am a loyal customer of Mitsui Garden in Japan as I always find its offerings consistent and comfortable. I have stayed in 6+ Mitsui Garden properties for more than 20 times. After I stayed in this property in Sapporo, my conviction in Mitsui Garden has weakened. The room is very spacious and nice, as usual. But two things that really surprised me. First of all, air-conditioning. The outside temperature was single digit degree Celsius and I naturally turned on the heat and set the temperature at 23C. I found the room was getting colder and colder (definitely not at or near 23) and the heat did not function. Then I adjusted the temperature up to 25C and then, guess what, an indication that the system was in preparation (as shown in the picture) showed up and this status usually lasted for 15-20 minutes before there was heat. I consulted the staff and was told verbally that the temperature being set in my neighboring rooms would affect the function of my AC and there was nothing that could be done. I was so surprised to hear this. Hey, I am not staying in a hotel room in a developing country! I wrote a note by email showing the same concern and got the reply from the hotel with the same answer (refer to the photo). As a result, it could get quite cold overnight unless I woke up and adjusted the thermostat. I found this quite “amazing” in 2025 in a major city in Japan. Secondly, housekeeping. I stayed for 6 nights and used housekeeping 3 times. The first time, eco cleaning which means just change towels and remove trash. When I got back to the room, a used towel was on my bed. The second time was a full cleaning. When I got back, my slippers were gone without putting a new pair there. The third time was DND and I put a note on the door saying that I just needed water and tissue paper but nothing else. At the end, two bottled water was at the door but no tissue. It seems the housekeeping staffs are not well trained to follow proper protocol. While Mitsui Garden has been expanding quickly and successfully, I hope it can keep up its standard in all aspects amid keen competition.
