Monarch Plaza Hotel

Stayed in a renovated room for 2 nights and, overall, found this to be a solid choice. The location in Taoyuan is very good and central — close to the airport, close to a nice park, and a short walk to the cultural/art center with hundreds of stores and restaurants as well as the local public library. I found the renovated room to be nice, though some furniture was already quite stained. Coffee, tea, and water bottles were provided and airconditioning worked well. Staff were efficient, courteous, and friendly without being overbearing — very typical for Taiwan and a good experience. Breakfast wasn’t very good, I’d rate it 3 stars at most. There was plenty of choice (bread, fruit, eggs, Asian dishes) but the quality just wasn’t really there. I believe the gym/sauna may have been down while I was there, but I was able to get a couple of runs in in the park nearby. Overall, I’d still give it 4-stars because the price was very reasonable and everything simply worked and sufficed. Recommended!

The room was a bit old, room size was good but need a bigger luggage tray to put my big luggage. Desk drawer has no envelopes or paper with a folder of hotel information which a bit disappointing. I did not like bottles of hand washer, shampoo and body wash. Less than half volume were filled. They all look cheap quality if it’s a 4 star hotel. Towers were not smooth at all. Overall I feel this is not 4 star hotel level to me.

Option close to TPE airport for 7AM flight but room quality really NOT 5*. The rooms were pretty outdated and filthy plus the safety boxes in both my room and family members’ weren’t working. Front desk is available 24/7 and was able to come by to replace battery but this should’ve been checked through in advance. Beds were not very comfortable and overall more like a 2 or 3 star hotel.
