Namgay Heritage Hotel

I recently stayed at Namgyal Hotel in Thimphu and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and warmth this four-star property offers. Located slightly away from the hustle of the main town, it offers a peaceful and scenic setting—ideal for travellers seeking both comfort and tranquility. The rooms are spacious, well-furnished, and tastefully done in traditional Bhutanese style with modern amenities. Housekeeping was prompt and efficient. One of the highlights of the hotel is the covered swimming pool, which is well-maintained and perfect for a relaxing dip regardless of the weather outside—a rarity in Thimphu. The staff were courteous, helpful, and genuinely eager to ensure a good experience. The in-house restaurant serves a decent spread, including both local and international cuisine. The breakfast buffet was particularly satisfying with fresh, organic options. Overall, Namgyal Hotel offers a comfortable and culturally rich stay with just the right touch of luxury. It’s a great choice for both leisure and business travellers visiting the capital.

The hotel is very beautiful, exceptionally clean and well maintained. My only concern is very bad insulation of exterior walls and windows that seems to be a common problem in Bhutan. They constantly have to run electric heaters but a bit of insulation could go far in energy savings. The area around is not very walkable but perfectly safe and is close to several governmental buildings.

We arrived early in the season so we had the hotel almost to ourselves. The rooms we were in were smallish. Lots of hot water. Small but comfortable bed. Staff gave 100% effort. There is an entertainment center on the even rooms side (good views) and people were celebrating something so staff moved us to the quiet side (odd). Put in 2 heaters to help warm up the room quicker. Kitchen went above and beyond. The building detailing is really amazing. Fancy glass wall elevator.
