Great to have a spacious, comfortable room after cramped conditions in other cities. Great staff, comfortable lounge and a welcoming bar where expert bar man can take you through the merits of an extensive Japanese whisky collection to find the perfect smokey pour
“Grandfather old antique clock 🕰️” is how I would describe this hotel. I’m sure it had its glorious days. I read about its history on the book which showcase the hotel’s glorious days, but definitely ages ago. It’s value for money, considering its location and room space which are reasonable, proper window and layout looking out to the outside places. Properly staffed and still uphold its own old pride and heritage. Providing proper breakfast (if you pay for it) and a venue for weddings to be held. The staff are still professional, with the stringent Japanese culture imbued in them to match with the antique hotel’s pride. On the day I arrived, a staff welcomed and greeted me outside the hotel which was impressive. I especially like the grand lobby with many antique huge sofas which sit comfortably. Lobby is so grand that I rather sit in the lobby at times when I arrive back to the hotel from outside. Note there isn’t any facility in the hotel as most are restaurants, cafe and some shops. The grand entrance to the hotel is also 素晴らしい ^_^ (wonderfully done with proper drive way and drop off area). Now to the room… unfortunately the rooms are very dated, like an old Fukuoka building.. like some other reviewers mentioned, first impression upon entering was that the room did smell slightly dusty and moldy.. and perhaps even feel a little moody. Maybe because the ventilation systems are really old, likewise the carpets in the room. They do however provide in each room an air freshening machine to help with that. Do note that even so, the rooms are actually well cleaned such as toilet, bedsheet are fresh. The shower is strong and the toiletries are properly furnished for use, which is done the old way, I liked it. Regardless of all the concerns above, I still felt it was an acceptable and good enough stay for my solo trip. And considering it’s reasonably priced, there is nothing much more to say.. give and take. I still think it deserves its 4 stars rating. I only hoped that the bed was more comfortable, as I could feel its spring when I lay on it, which was a pity . I also wished the sleeping clothes they provided me was of a bigger size as it was a little too tight for me. I also heard noises of people talking at night in the next door rooms or outside, and thought the sound proofing was not so strong. Lastly, I hope the room cleaning staffs will consider placing the accessories such as luggage stand in a way which does not obstruct the entrance way into the room, as I had knocked my shin against it as it was blocking the way. Another thing I hoped that the drinks cabinet was placed at an angle of 45 degrees instead of perpendicular against the wall which was hindered by the curtains and harder to access.. details such as these may not be so vital, but such details for an antique hotel would matter to me and I thought it would be more thoughtful to the guest.
Came in as a family of 15 and booked 6 rooms - the staff handled us well and the hotel had lots of space in the lobby for our family to lounge. The rooms are small but big enough for 2-3 people plus luggage. The hotel is a bit old but you won't feel like it's run down. The housekeeping also does a great job making the room everyday. The location is excellent and every point of interest is at least within a 15-min walking radius. I highly recommend!!!
