Novotel Newcastle Beach

The Novotel Newcastle is a very well located hotel is easy access to public transport and the beach right on your doorstep. Unfortunately the check-in process wasn’t as smooth. I arrived early to drop my bags and complete the check-in process (provided my ID,Credit Card and signed the paperwork). I advised the team I would be paying via giftcard and that my mother would be arriving in the afternoon to collect the key. I had added her name to the registration form. I knew I would be working till late in the afternoon. To my surprise I received a call from the hotel asking if my mother could be given a key and she was required to provide a credit card where they completed a hold. The whole purpose of me attending the hotel in the morning to complete the paperwork was so that she didn’t have to do this. The room itself was very comfortable and clean and provided a great night sleep. We attended the Bistro Dalby for dinner and Karen was wonderful. I also had breakfast in the morning which had a wide verity of options. Overall it was a nice stay and I would be back again.

It was a lovely stay, everything was fine. The only issue I had was the smell of bleach when I first entered the room, but that disappeared quickly after opening the balcony door for a little while. Staff were friendly. Great location.

Great location right by the beach and friendly staff, but unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The room was not clean — I found rubbish under the bed, hair in the bathroom, sand in the shower, and visible mould in the shower area. Very disappointing for a hotel of this standard. Breakfast was extremely basic with no real taste or quality, definitely not what I expected. Overall, apart from the location and polite staff, the experience did not meet expectations. I hope the hotel improves in the future, and that next time the stay will be much better.
