Ocio Villas Mal Pais

We stayed at Casa Chameleon Malpais for the second part of our honeymoon in June and it was amazing! Our room was gorgeous and had an amazing view, and was well cleaned everyday. The food was great and drinks delicious. The staff was friendly and facilitated everything we needed (and even made sure pre-booked excursions were on time). My favorite meal there was the typical breakfast with the turialba cheese & the coco-loco (which i tried on an excursion and become obsessed with it, so they remade it for me)! The romantic dinner was absolutely adorable and so nice also! The road to get up there was a little iffy, but otherwise everything was fantastic. Big shoutouts to Andy, Keyner, Brandon, Nicole and Esteban, you guys made our stay amazing! We will definitely be back!

My wife and I just spent a week here for part of our honeymoon, we could not be happier! The staff is absolutely amazing. To, Nicole, Mariano, Kenyier, and Andy; Thank you all for making our stay feel so special and welcoming. We had an amazing time in Mal Pais, because of all the wonderful suggestions you guys gave us! If you are looking for a private/relaxation getaway, we highly Recommend Casa Chameleon at Mal Pais. Thank you all for the amazing memories we made! We hope to be back again in the future!

Do not book any excursions or ATVs through the hotel. They up charge everything and you can easily book from the companies directly for less. AND they were shady about the prices. I feel cheated because the prices they had listed in their app (that they emailed to me) turned out to be totally incorrect and we were hit with a much larger bill than anticipated at check out. Conveniently, during check out, the app would not let us log in to show the concierge that the prices we expected were different. As for the ATV rental through the hotel, the guy totally lied and told us that “there are no gas stations anywhere in town” to persuade us to pay for them to fill up the tank when we were done with it for $25. There were literally several places to fill up, including other ATV rental places that were waayyyy more reasonably priced. It was our first time in Costa Rica so we just didn’t know and they preyed on our ignorance. Not only that, we only used the ATVs for less than a day and the gas meter didn’t even move and they charged us the full amount plus some other fee that was not made clear to us at the beginning. Other than that, the road to the hotel is pretty bad and on a steep incline but that wasn’t a big deal to me. The food was maybe 7/10, views 10/10 and rooms 10/10. My biggest piece of advice, if you plan on staying here, only pay for the room don’t add on anything else because everything including the food is heavily overpriced and you’ll feel scammed.
