Lovely traditional pub with a beautiful river at the bottom of its garden - perfect for sitting by with a cold pint on a sunny day. Very tasty, and excellent value, full English breakfast. Friendly staff who couldn’t have been more accommodating.
Nice location, however me and my wife Jackie booked a table for 4 people, service was good. Meal was alright experience was bought down by the chef at the end who came up to the table, acted very full of himself. We just wanted to pay our bill, not hear him talk about himself for 5 minutes. All in all the food was good, bar staff were attentive, nice beer. Just a chef who has a huge ego. Lovely owners, just not a great chef.
Do not stay here. No idea where the 4* rating came from as this isn’t the experience we had. In short - rooms are very tired, and service is almost non existent. The longer version: Rooms - spacious and self contained, with a decent shower, but otherwise very tired with sagging spring mattress, dirt and spiders in every corner, stained carpets, broken toilet seat… the list goes on. There was also a strong chemical/ paint smell but no evidence of fresh paint. Service - both check in and breakfast were managed by teenage staff, who while lovely, had clearly not been trained and had no idea what to do. There wasn’t a soul in sight at check out so we just left our key. Breakfast- was like something from a sitcom. One person doing all the cooking and service. No menus just “what do you want?” then items brought one at a time by the waitress who was trying her best but had no idea of even the basics (cup, then spoon, then coffee, then milk, then toast, then butter, then sauce… all brought separately, multiplied by the 4 tables in the room who by this point were just rolling our eyes at one another and wishing each other luck!) I know this isn’t an expensive or fancy place, but even the basics like comfort, cleanliness, or feeling welcomed as a guest, are not in place. It’s a shame as the location has great potential.
