The Quirk Hotel is a gem; it is dressed in a lovely pinkish hue, has incredibly comfortable couches, tables, and chairs for eating and lounging in a lobby that is fit for a museum with its super high ceilings and perfect white wall painting. The hotel is quiet and relaxing. We stayed 5 consecutive nights in June 2025. Each morning, I started with a 7- mile run along the canal and James River - an easy jog from the hotel. Breakfast was delicious including wonderful lattes and drip coffee. Every morning, between us, we ordered the french toast, fresh fruit with yogurt parfait, homemade granola, and avocado toast. A healthy way to start the day. As to the staff: top shelf - not overly aggressive but attentive, warm, and ready to help. Each person, including Rose, Francis, Shy, Morgan, Jen, Katlin, and Ava could not have been nicer, friendlier, or more accommodating. And, Richmond has a public transit - bus system including a stop one short block away from the Quirk Hotel. We were on the 5th floor and although there were 2 weddings over the weekend, our room was quiet as could be. The sun filled our room, the views beautiful. No problem with hot water at all. I would come back again and again - I highly recommend the Quirk Hotel.

The Quirk Hotel is a fun experience…kitchy decor….lots of pink, black and white and quirky, artsy sculptures. It’s in a great location in downtown and within walking distance to good food and venues with bands. We found the bar area service a little slow and the rooftop bar lacking some ambience. It’s a great space up there just needs some more covered seating areas and greenery. We will plan to stay again in the future.

Looks Can Be Deceiving...Aside from the cuteness downstairs this place is not a good place to stay. TL;DR: Old musty rooms (may have literal mold smells bad in 2 rooms), mediocre service, cute downstairs used to disguise how bad and old the building is. From the lobby, the hotel is beautiful — trendy, artistic, and full of pink-glam boutique charm. But step outside or upstairs and the illusion falls apart. Location: This hotel sits in a ghost town. Block after block of boarded-up stores and dead businesses. It felt deserted and depressing — not the “vibrant arts district” they promise. Service: Barely staffed. One valet who’s also the bellhop. Front desk staff didn’t seem interested in being helpful. No one available for housekeeping when we called. Food & Bar: Very average, nothing memorable. The rooftop is pretty. The cheese board was so gross and it looked like it was designed by someone who has never traveled or tasted cheese. Room & Cleanliness: Our first room smelled like cigarette smoke. They moved us, but the next room wasn’t much better: • Tub was visibly dirty- with hair gross • Baseboards covered in dust • Everything felt dingy beneath a layer of cheap pink decor. I truly believe there is mold! • Worst of all: the body wash had been diluted with water. Instead of refilling it properly, they clearly just added water to stretch it. It was runny, smelled off, and honestly just gross. Another glaring sign of how cheap and careless this hotel has become. Final Thought: I don’t know if it’s a struggling property or just completely mismanaged, but it was a letdown from start to finish. Skip Richmond and drive straight to D.C. You’ll thank yourself later.
