Scandic Backadal

I’m going to go against the grain of other reviewers and review this from the perspective of someone who lives in Scandinavia vs the typical foreign tourist. My wife and I are heading home from a 4 night stay at this hotel and I have to say we are leaving in a fairly relaxed state. Access to the hotel is fairly easy via the X4 bus from Nordstan. There’s also the 40 and 18 bus lines that will take you to and from different parts of Gothenburg. This is important to know if you are going to Ullevi for a concert etc. the 40 is great for access to Ullevi. The room we had was good size for a Scandinavian hotel and as expected, no AC. I was fine with this even though it was hitting 25 outside. If you time opening the window, vent and curtains, you will be fine. The restaurant was surprisingly good! I had their “smash” burger and I was shocked at how good it was. The only better burger I have had in Gothenburg was at 2112 (2112 has the best burgers in the Nordics IMO). Check out was super easy via the app but check in time is frustratingly late at 16.00. This hotel has a pool and a movie room for the kids. There’s a nice outdoor terrace on the East side of the building. All in all, I was very happy with our stay. This hotel is a pleasant surprise as most Scandic properties in Gothenburg are pretty disappointing. I would encourage to stay a few days and enjoy a motel/hotel done right.

Stayed at Scandic Backadal and found the experience to be a bit underwhelming, especially considering the price. The hotel itself feels quite dated and in need of renovation. The rooms were basic and lacked air conditioning, which made it uncomfortable during warmer weather. It would also have been nice to have the option to make a cup of coffee in the room something we expected at this price point. On the bright side, the pool was clean and enjoyable, and the breakfast was very good with a wide selection. Overall, the stay was okay, but the hotel feels tired and doesn’t quite live up to the cost.

Very unpleasant stay.. staff at reception during breakfast time was not helpful at all on Sunday 22nd December.. Plus elevators takes long time which I have no issue but because of this some old man argue with me for no reason that why I pressing lift button when I only press when they leave after few minutes wait but they setting their elevator strange way that they don’t go up direct if someone call from breakfast floor or ground floor They have to be put 2 separate button for calling both elevators to avoid this problem so people like that old man who getting mad on others just for calling elevator once it started to move can behave normal and not ruin other people mood n stay I waited very long too with my toddler on breakfast floor and facing same problem but I know how to be patience unlike that old man. Hotel staff should take proper action for this type of rude people.
