This resort has beautiful views of the ocean and you can hear the waves crashing when you're sitting at the pool or doing yoga. It is peaceful and not really a party resort, although there is a lot of activities to do each day. We loved the Live DJ at night and the Beatles show. We also loved the kayak tour. We did an excursion with Frank the Tank, and we got to hike through the rainforest and eat at a local restaurant. The food was excellent. The rooms did not have a separate bathroom, just frosted glass windows for the shower and toilet, so not a lot of privacy. The resort is on the side of a hill and there are shuttles available but we liked walking around to get our exercise in. We enjoyed our time here and will be back!
Unfortunately I do not think my stay at this resort was worth the price we paid. My impression was tarnished right from the start; every all-inclusive I've ever been to offers a signature cocktail as soon as you get off the bus, we were offered luke-warm water bottles once we sat to check in. Our room was fine, it was clean and we had a nice view, but there was questionable duct work for the a/c and it was leaking water. Possibly user error but we could not work the phone. The food was good 75% of the time. Most of the meals we had at the restaurants were great; the buffet and room service food were hit or miss. What disappointed me the most was the service. Overall I did not find the staff to be overly friendly, and there were small things that impaired our experience. For example, I had asked to take a brownie to go after lunch (it was on the menu) and was just flatly told "no." I understand employees can't say yes to everything and have to follow rules, but customer service 101 is to offer another suggestion if you can't accommodate a request. Our first morning at breakfast, my partner got dress coded for wearing a sleeveless shirt. I understand dress codes for dinner, but at 10am? At the restaurant where I'm sitting outside next to the pool? What a silly rule. Additionally, every time we ate at a restaurant, we'd have to ask for condiments (ketchup/mayo etc). They would take 10-15 minutes to bring it over and we'd be half done with our meals. Because of the humidity in the air, the salt in every shaker was clumped and wouldn't come out. There are easy fixes for this! Our experience at the pool wasn't great either- most days there were not enough chairs. Why am I am paying multiple thousands of dollars to put a towel on concrete? Do you know it is not illegal to have multiple rows of chairs? In conclusion, it was our first time in Costa Rica and it's a beautiful country. But unfortunately we will not be staying at Secrets again and I would not recommend it to a friend.
Stayed at Secrets Papagayo Costa Rica, and I must say I am beyond disappointed with the lack , recognition, when it comes to celebrating special occasions. My wife and I came here to celebrate both our wedding anniversary and my wife birthday , a trip we planned carefully and communicated well in advance. In fact, I informed the resort 10 months ahead of time, and upon arrival I personally reminded the person checking us in and also three different staff members about the reason for our stay. Yet, there has been absolutely no acknowledgment whatsoever. Walking around and see other rooms with a Happy anniversary banner was sad. At a resort that brands itself as “luxury” and “romantic,” one would expect at least a small gesture of hospitality whether a note, a simple dessert, or even just a kind word recognizing the occasion. We travel frequently, and what has always made destinations memorable isn’t just the scenery but the way staff make you feel valued. Unfortunately, here at Secrets Papagayo, that personal touch was missing . Other than that it’s a beautiful resort , entire staff is super nice and friendly, good food and drinks and daily entertainment. Would’ve definitely been a 5 star if the occasion was recognized as other Luxury resorts we have been too .
