In my opinion, the hotel was great! Many good amenities such as the pool, spa, bikes, buffets and yummy food. However the room and pool was a little dirty and the service wasn't very good. The staff didn't really help with the luggage onto the golf buggy. Overall, I would recommend Sheraton if you want to explore the nearby beach, and mountains (I loved Domaine de Deva) but you should prepare to carry luggage yourself and learn to speak French. I'd give it a 3 star rating! This hotel made me enjoy every second of being in Bourail! :)

This was our second visit to New Caledonia and to the Deva. It is clear that this gorgeous resort has suffered from the recent civil problems and the associated tourism downturn and needs some tlc. That said our stay was lovely. The golf course is good, the pool very clean and very relaxing. Breakfast buffet was fine with freshly made eggs to your liking, pastries, fresh fruit etc. Dinner was a bit limited but this did not impact our enjoyment of this special place. The staff were all wonderful. I hope more Australians visit soon. It’s only 2 hours from Brisbane and best of all it’s not the Gold Coast!

At Sheraton Deva, it’s the people who truly make the experience unforgettable. Every team member we encountered welcomed us with genuine hospitality, kindness, and attention to detail. Their dedication made a lasting impact, and their spirit of Sheraton excellence is clear. The setting itself is breathtaking — from the turquoise waters to the lush gardens, the natural beauty is undeniable and gives the resort extraordinary potential to be a true flagship destination for New Caledonia and the South Pacific. Because of how much we appreciated our stay — and how much potential we see here — we wanted to share some feedback. While service levels were consistently high, the physical condition of the resort is beginning to fall behind Sheraton’s well-known five-star standards. We recognise the significant challenges faced here — from remote logistics to post-pandemic recovery — and we share this feedback with respect, optimism, and a genuine wish to see the resort reach its full potential. Specific observations from our stay: 1. Guest Rooms Used as Storage: Several accommodations appear to be repurposed as storage areas. As a result, there was frequent staff movement and traffic near guest rooms throughout the day, disrupting the peaceful, relaxed atmosphere guests come here to enjoy. 2. Mould and Moisture Issues: We observed visible mould on the room’s couch upholstery, across the bathroom surfaces, and in adjoining living areas. A leaking bathroom from a room above ours appeared to contribute to ongoing moisture problems — an issue that requires urgent remediation to protect both guest health and the building fabric. 3. Subpar Maintenance and Quick Fixes: Some areas of the property showed patchwork repairs and signs of deferred maintenance, which distracted from the overall beauty of the resort. Timber features are weathered and in need of treatment or varnishing to preserve their natural elegance. 4. Aging Soft Furnishings and Linens: Worn upholstery, discolored towels, and tired bedding all subtly detracted from the luxury feel that Sheraton guests expect — small details that collectively shape the guest experience. Looking ahead, we see a truly exciting opportunity for Sheraton Deva to lead in the Pacific by investing in thoughtful upgrades and experience activation: 1. Focused Maintenance and Refurbishment: Deep cleaning and remediation of moisture-affected areas, Replacement of aged soft furnishings and linens, Revarnishing and treating exposed timber to revive the beautiful natural finishes. 2. Improved Space Management: Reducing the visible use of guest accommodations for storage would immediately improve the sense of exclusivity, privacy, and tranquility that guests expect at a luxury resort. 3. Creation of a Resort-Based Activity Hub: Given Sheraton Deva’s stunning beachfront, introducing on-site activities with third parties — such as jet ski hire, glass-bottom boat tours, snorkeling adventures, kayaking experiences, and seaplane excursions — would significantly enhance the guest experience without requiring external travel logistics. 4. Showcasing Kanak Culture: Incorporating local Kanak art, food, and cultural storytelling into the resort experience would create a deeper sense of connection to place and offer guests unique, memorable experiences. In summary: Sheraton Deva is blessed with one of the most spectacular natural locations in the world, an exceptional team, and a strong foundation for success. With targeted investment in maintenance, a refresh of furnishings, and activation of new guest experiences, Sheraton Deva can reclaim — and surpass — its position as a five-star leader in the South Pacific. We are genuinely excited to see how Sheraton Deva continues to evolve, and we look forward to returning to experience its next, even brighter chapter.
