We booked superior room because we travelled with dog and it was very good decision. Room was nice, big and bathroom was renovated. View was pretty and i could directly walk my dog from balcony. It was very convinient option. My room was quite quitet, we didn't hear karaoke, however all dogs rooms are next to Wach other so you can hear parking is someone leave dog alone in room ( but not too much). I personalny like old style so I felt very comfy in common parts of hotel. It was 80's retro but with pieces od nice design. I do not recommend modern lovers or Ikea obsessed people. Spa is old and not comperable to Spas in Sokos hotele but have one big plus. As hotel quest, I could go there as much time as I wanted ( and also on the morning I had accesss to all facilities. When I was in Bomba, it was big dissappointiment because they have only morning Sauna for quests open, without access to swimming pool or jacuzzi). I spent 2 nights in Casino hotel and I was 4 times in spa, each time for about 1 h. They have screen with aqua aerobic videos do I had my training before breakfast everyday. Breakfast was very good. Area is wonderful, calm, amazing nature.
Key things: 1. Price is quite reasonable for Savonlinna / Finland. We've spent 100e for a Friday night with breakfast and spa access for 3 people. 2. Spa zone is small, but enough for a short visit, especially after a long road. 3. Breakfast is typical Finnish hotel breakfast, so no surprises. Good, but not great. 4. Hotel is old, rooms are tired, but well thought through. Also beds were good, which is one of the most important things in an hotel. 5. Location is superb, lakes around, 5 min by the walking bridge to the center of Savonlinna. 6. Parking is free and quite big. In conclusion, great place to stay in Savonlinna for cheap.
The hotel may have had a glamorous past but now strongly reminds of a rather run down nursing home. Stale air, musty hallways and my oh my, what a room. The room we first had was narrow, the bathroom was so small that you basically showered on the toilet (no joke), the only rather pleasant thing was the view. I think that the jail cells in Finland are more spacious. It was an extremely hot weekend and the provided air conditioning was not only absolutely insufficient but came with a broken remote control (which we found out at the reception) and didn’t let us even set a temperature. After very good! service from Aada who ran the evening shift alone we were able to change rooms despite it being after 10 pm. The new room was utterly different from the first one, not overwhelming or boasting with luxury (not that we were expecting any) but what you would expect from a regular room. The swimming hall is old, has rusty drains in the pool and doesn’t cause any excitement, the sauna is okay. The breakfast was simple and had mediocre gluten free options, but on the second day a lot of items were out/ missing. Given the price we payed (because of the opera festival that was going on in the city, which we didn’t come for) and the original room we had, I would have given one star. As there was good service regarding the room issue and the view/ location are good, there is two stars.
