The Portage Resort

I thoroughly enjoyed a one night stay here and look forward to returning another time. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the room was clean and comfortable. I see a lot of reviews mention the food was a let down. We actually really enjoyed the food and I appreciated that there was more than one vegetarian option for each meal. Yes, it was slightly expensive but that's understandable given the fairly remote location - plus it's worth it for the views! An all round fantastic place to stay, for a very reasonable price.

We had a lovely day off on our Queen Charlotte Track walk. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We used the free kayaks and could also have tried paddle boarding. Dinner was delicious in lovely surroundings with fantastic views. It’s set us up well for our final day on the track. Ignore any dated poor reviews, management has changed.

The rooms had excellent views and balcony to enjoy them from and the beds were comfortable. When staying as a group of 4 the rooms lacked communal space which was a shame as both rooms were bedrooms, this was in contrast to other locations on the QC track. The real letdown was dinner which took 90mins to get our main course after reminding the staff we were waiting (our order didn’t appear to have been called cleared). The food then came undercooked in the rush. The staff did offer a cursory apology but didn’t seek to remedy the situation. If they had cooking facilities would be a better stay, or improve restaurant service.
