We stayed with Uga Ulagalla in last May and had an amazing experience! The staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was clean and comfortable, and the amenities were top-notch. The location was perfect, with beautiful sun sets either by paddy fields or by the lake..... Ms Yoshina, I just wanted to say thank you for the amazing birthday surprise. It truly made my day special and your warmth and friendliness is truly remarkable. The team restaurant is very friendly and they knew exactly what we want and will always come back for the "Maid Tea".....Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay. Can't wait to come back!" 😊👍
Unforgettable stay at the Uga Ulagalla The resort is cleverly embedded in nature. The guest bungalows are loosely distributed on the huge site. For transportation you can take the villa bikes or call a golf cart. The XXL pool invites you to swim and relax. Morning excursion by Jeep with Katharina is highly recommended! We loved the varied and very good food. Stuff is always very friendly and helpful. Yoshina, the Guest Relations Manager, taught us many Singales words. We had a incredible great time with her and we miss her terribly. Hari, hari, Yoshi?!
Mixed Experience at Uga – Beautiful Setting, Thoughtful Touches, But Several Letdowns Uga is a beautiful property that truly feels like a getaway. The welcome was warm, and the room was very clean with thoughtful touches like a fruit basket and sweets left in the room after dinner—those small gestures really added to the experience. We also appreciated the in-room Bluetooth speaker, which was a great source of entertainment. One feature we missed in the basic pool villa was a hot water jacuzzi—it would’ve been a perfect way to relax, especially after a long day. Unfortunately, the outdoor pool didn’t feel safe or usable, as wild monkeys were frequently around and even drinking from the pool. The sunrise boat tour on the water lily pond was scenic and peaceful. However, it could have been better managed. Our guide, Sadun, was often at the front and not helpful when we got stuck. He also incorrectly billed us $50 per person for the tour instead of the local rate of $30. Thankfully, I noticed and it was corrected, but $30 still felt a bit high for the experience. There were quite a few lizards in and around the room, which was uncomfortable. And at the restaurant, there were many mosquitoes, which made dining unpleasant—being bitten while eating really took away from the enjoyment. Food was a major letdown. Although dishes were beautifully presented with plenty of options, the flavors were basic, and some items—like dinner—were even served cold. The pandan dessert, in particular, was disappointing. Uga has a lot of potential with its stunning location and thoughtful amenities, but improvements in food quality, pest control, pricing transparency, and guest comfort (like safer outdoor features) are needed to truly deliver a premium experience.
