Village Hotel Changi: A Relaxing Staycation with Exceptional Room Service (4/5 Stars) Rating Breakdown: • Room: 4.5/5 (Spacious, comfortable, and a wonderful bathtub – a real highlight for me!) • Service: 4/5 (Exceptional room service; check-in communication less smooth) • Amenities: 3.5/5 (Lack of Netflix/YouTube on TV; difficulty reaching hotel services via room phone) • Overall: 4/5 Stars Donkey and I recently enjoyed a staycation at Village Hotel Changi, and it was a delightful surprise, especially for me! Finding a hotel room with a bathtub these days is a rare treat, and we both thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in it. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, providing ample space for us both. The absolute highlight of our stay was the exceptional friendliness of the room service staff. On level 7, a staff member went above and beyond, offering us extra coffee and creamer, and even asking if we needed anything else. This level of service truly elevated our stay. However, the check-in process was a bit less smooth. Communication with the front desk staff proved challenging, possibly due to a language barrier. Additionally, the lack of Netflix or YouTube connectivity on the TV was disappointing, as this is a feature we've come to expect from most hotels. Finally, contacting hotel services via the room phone proved difficult; our calls went unanswered both morning and night, until we tried using the bathroom phone instead. Despite these minor drawbacks, the spacious room, the fantastic bathtub (a personal favorite of mine!), and the incredibly friendly room service staff made our staycation memorable. We would recommend Village Hotel Changi, particularly to those who appreciate a relaxing bath and excellent service.

I opted to stay here because of its proximity to Changi Airport. A shuttle bus is available with limited hours to operate to and from the airport which is free of charge and convenient. Some of the staff were very friendly and courteous, even offering to call me a taxi to the airport and even gave me access to the gym room to freshen up after my flight since my room wasn't ready. I found it very interesting that the phone operator referred to the hotel's shuttle bus driver by telling me to "Keep a look out for the Indian guy". Instead of just describing the bus or telling me to keep a look out for the signage on the bus. The room was very standard but there was mould on the bathroom ceiling, and also an empty minibar which I thought was interesting for a 4 star hotel. The infinity pool seems impressive and the gym is one of the best gyms I've seen in a hotel with lots of new equipment and very clean. Proximity-wise, this hotel is naturally far off from the city, however, it is close to a hawker centre which is perfect if you're after some local delicacies and have a one night layover. Finally, the hotel also has a banquets area, and a bar which I didn't use but seemed okay. There is a complementary refreshment station with some water and biscuits which I thought was very nice given Singapore's heat and humidity. In terms of value for money, I think it is slightly overpriced by regional standards but by Singapore standards, it is on the more affordable end of the spectrum if you're after that one-night layover. Thank you to the staff for making my stay comfortable. Regards, Nilesh Bartlett

The team at the hotel are excellent at front of house, and it is their efforts that lifted my rating to 2 stars. Location wise, it served its purpose for us as it was a brief stay of 2 nights and we wanted proximity to the airport; please note it is around 25 minutes to the airport. The room was poor and in disrepair. One of the wardrobe doors required the occupant to have arms of steel to open it; clearly many before me gave up because the dust on the hanging rails looked dated. Several other faults in the room, including many tv stations not fully tuned in were annoying for a hotel of this price. However, worst of all was the buffet breakfast. Possibly the worst we have experienced in many years of traveling. The food quality was poor, and the set up was borderline unhygienic. Walking in to see, the morning's dirty dishes stacked up next to the buffet was very off-putting.. I even found used bowls with milk remnants near the few clean ones by the cereal. Quite disgusting. Not the end to our 2 week holiday I was hoping for with this brief stopover in a country we love.
