We stayed two nights at Horizon Wellness & Spa Resort in Varese in mid-February. The wellness facilities were a highlight, with access available until 11 PM, and the free parking was convenient. The lake view was beautiful, and the breakfast offered a good variety of options. The staff was friendly. Upon arrival, we noticed a leak in the sink in our room, but we didn’t report it as we are easy-going and don’t spend much time in the room. On the other hand, the noise levels were quite disturbing for a 4-star hotel that appears to be new or recently renovated. The poor soundproofing meant we could hear everything from the corridor and neighboring rooms, which was disruptive, especially considering the hotel’s quality. Moreover, on our first night, there was a disturbance in the neighboring room involving a loud “romantic” argument that escalated to police intervention (probably later than we would have hoped). Unfortunately, no one from the hotel addressed the situation afterward. Additionally, when we returned on our last day after cycling, we asked if we could use the spa, as there was no additional cost for the hotel. However, the receptionist declined our request, which was disappointing, especially given the circumstances (and our intention to dine at the hotel, which would have generated additional revenue for them). Overall, the hotel offers good amenities, but the noise was really disruptive, and the lack of flexibility with spa access was frustrating. I would rate this stay a 3 out of 5.
4 STAR PRICES FOR A 2.5 STAR EXPERIENCE. We booked a night of rest and relaxation here expecting a 4-star "wellness & spa resort" to be similar to others we've stayed at, but instead we got a very disappointing experience. The spa was okay but fairly small, the steam room was out of order, and they were playing country covers of pop songs which kind of ruined the spa vibes. Also, the spa does not stay open until 11pm anymore, just until 8pm. Likewise, our room was just okay. It was much more like a motel than a hotel in the sense that you drive right up to your room and park in front of it. The door facing the parking lot was very poorly sealed, as was the other door leading into the hotel, so we could hear what seemed like every little noise--people talking in the hallway, constant traffic on the road outside, etc.--and could smell cooking odors from the kitchen in our room. The room itself wasn't very high quality either; the door to the bathroom didn't shut, the toilet flush was malfunctioning, and the walls had sticky residue on them. By far, our biggest problem was that the hotel hosted a party that included loud DJ club music until midnight. We tried to watch a movie in our room but could barely hear it over the party noise, and it was impossible to sleep until the music ended. It was like trying to relax and fall asleep in the back room of a discotheque. We would never, ever have come to the hotel had we known this ahead of time, but apparently the hotel hosts parties like this quite regularly. Breakfast was okay, although the barista was grumpy about making our coffees, and there were flies all over the buffet from the open front doors. If we had expected this to be a budget hotel that just happened to have a spa, our expectations would have better matched our experience, although there is still no excuse for a hotel, much less a "wellness resort," to hold dance parties on the premises.
Terrible experience! We're travelling with a 6 months old baby. We ask while checking in if we can borrow a babycot not to have to take ours out from the car, they tell us no problem and finally they charge at check out 10 euros per night without having told us nothing at check in - and they tell you that it's written on their website... seriously. It was 30 degrees in the room, no air conditioning until mid may and you would think they would find a solution, a fan or something, nothing. Congrats, you destroyed a customer experience very easily.
