InterContinental Johannesburg O.R Tambo Airport by IHG

We arrived to Johannesburg and were tired. This was the only hotel available nearby and it was a little pricey but since we were on vacation we splurged a little. From the start this hotel is amazing. Right outside the terminal, we were able to check in quickly and get a room. We got the junior suite and it was the same price as a regular room. From then on, the staff was amazing. We were able to switch $100 currency a day at the front desk as reasonable rates. The staff would come up to us and they would know our name which was trippy at first but it showed that they put an effort into knowing you. We had a small problem that they were able to fix and to us it wasn’t a big deal but they continued to make it up to us and be so kind. I never received this type of hospitality at any other hotel ever. The restaurant was amazing too and very affordable. Sinalo was amazing and informed us on the best way to eat some of the food they had. He was so kind and informative and I enjoyed the dinner he brought us. They also had very affordable room service, a pool, gym and a spa! This place was amazing and I definitely recommend staying here at least one night to get adjusted from the long travel

Great airport hotel, conveniently located within a 5 min walk. Staff in the hotel was very efficient and helpful. Special mention for reception desk - who enabled a very smooth check-in and gave us connecting rooms (many thanks for that), and accommodated our reservation change request due to flight re-bookings. One comment I will need to make is that we had requested for a meet and greet service as we had luggage and sometime moving across the different floors in the airport can get confusing and challenging with luggage. Despite a confirmation, there was no one at the meet and greet. Other than that one isolated incident, overall great hotel as well as restaurant.

Food might as well have been prepared from the garbage. AC/Heating not really working in the rooms; it’s either an Arctic tundra or a sauna no in between. I would also inspect your sheets when you stay; I’m 99% sure they didn’t wash the ones in my room and just made the bed from the last guest. For the price I was hoping for far better; at this price range you might as well spend a bit extra and go to the four seasons and get true quality.
