Working with Kelly Burnett at Santa Monica Proper is always a dream. As an event vendor, I truly appreciate her warm, professional energy and how effortlessly she manages every detail. She’s incredibly responsive, easy to work with, and always makes us feel like valued partners. The entire events team is just as fantastic! Organized, welcoming, and solution-oriented from start to finish. This is the absolute best property to dine, stay and host an event at.

I recently stayed at The Proper Hotel in Santa Monica, and while my visit started with a few minor setbacks, I have to give major credit to Aaron Gonzales, the front desk manager. He went above and beyond to ensure everything was handled professionally and with genuine care. Aaron took the time to personally work through the issues with me, and thanks to his attention and follow-through, my stay turned into a fantastic experience. It’s rare to see someone so committed to guest satisfaction. Because of him, I’ll absolutely be returning—and recommending The Proper to friends and family. Thanks again, Aaron, for turning things around and making the stay special!

Proper Santa Monica leans luxury with a wellness slant — great fitness center, solid bike rentals, and valet was smooth. The room was spacious (though a bit basic), and the views were just okay for being so close to the beach. Service overall felt detached — no issues, but no warmth either. Everyone was “nice enough,” just not particularly engaged. That said, Michael, who served us on the rooftop, was a standout — personable, attentive, and one of the few staff who made a real impression. The pool was fine. Bar drinks were underwhelming, though I doubt most guests would notice. We had lunch and coffee in the lobby, and while the food was decent- the coffee was just ok, service was slow. One friend didn’t get his coffee until we asked twice — odd and kind of frustrating. All in all, it’s a stylish spot with strong amenities, but it’s missing that sense of hospitality that makes a place feel special.
